Amateur Nephologist

from Dots and Lines by Eric Elliott

“Amateur Nephologist”

I’ve been dreamin’ of a better start, and this is where I must begin
When everything falls apart, it brings me here again
There’s nothing I can say, there’s nothing that I can do
To make these feelings go away, when I think of you

So I tell myself there must be a plan, a better reason why you’re not here
I’m doing the best that I can, to let you disappear
But I see you in the stars, the mountains and the sea
In every cloudy morning, you’re what I want to see

The simple truth is this, that I cannot resist trying to make the words rhyme
But I will try to be your truth and honesty when I have the time

So I’m stuck with only memories, and truth in what I say
I will try to struggle on with these, but you will always be in the way
You’re in the way I say hello, you’re in the way I look at the sky
You’re in the way I write my name, you’re in the way I say goodbye
You’re in the way I study the clouds, you’re in the way I know I can
You’re in the way I live my life, the way I understand
It’s in the way you said hello, it’s in the way you looked to the sky
It’s in the way you said my name, it’s in the way you said goodbye
