Monday 03:51
"Monday" Monday, world is stirring, as I go walking out A slow day, snow is falling, hardly makes a sound Tuesday, early morning, I pick a different route Something bright is shining, brings me back to you And I'm ready, come what may, I'm on my way Wednesday, the air is full of promises, so much for me to do Waiting, sitting, pacing, wandering, Thursday comes too soon Friday, won't you come away with me, let our dreams come true Come what may, Saturday and Sunday, and all our Mondays too

Oh No! 04:05
“Oh No!” You were someone else today, the way you acted, yeah, you took my breath away And now there’s nothing here that’s left for me to say, except oh no, no Oh no, no I guess it had to end, but what I still don’t know is why can’t we be friends Cuz what you’re doing’s not what I would recommend, oh no, no Oh no, no Don’t hate me, I know I let you down, but lately you got me runnin’ around, all around So, I guess it comes to this, a situation that I frankly wish I’d missed But it’s all over, so I guess I’ll shut my lips, and think oh no, no Oh no, no You were someone else today, the way you acted, yeah, you took my breath away And now there’s nothing here that’s left for me to say, except oh no, no Oh no, no
3.
“Amateur Nephologist” I’ve been dreamin’ of a better start, and this is where I must begin When everything falls apart, it brings me here again There’s nothing I can say, there’s nothing that I can do To make these feelings go away, when I think of you So I tell myself there must be a plan, a better reason why you’re not here I’m doing the best that I can, to let you disappear But I see you in the stars, the mountains and the sea In every cloudy morning, you’re what I want to see The simple truth is this, that I cannot resist trying to make the words rhyme But I will try to be your truth and honesty when I have the time So I’m stuck with only memories, and truth in what I say I will try to struggle on with these, but you will always be in the way You’re in the way I say hello, you’re in the way I look at the sky You’re in the way I write my name, you’re in the way I say goodbye You’re in the way I study the clouds, you’re in the way I know I can You’re in the way I live my life, the way I understand It’s in the way you said hello, it’s in the way you looked to the sky It’s in the way you said my name, it’s in the way you said goodbye
4.
“Prairie Dog Town” There’s a hill with a prairie dog town They’ll all come up whenever we come around They’ve got a little church buried underneath the ground Oh we could get married in a prairie dog town Woah we could get married in a prairie dog town
5.
Brother 03:13
“Brother” When you were young, I pushed you to the ground As I lay in bed crying, you never made a sound I grew into my ways, I thought you’d find your own Separate cities and highways, silence on the phone My eyes looking back at me, something inside burning brightly, then it’s gone One bright future sits broken down, forgotten words go unspoken now, and that’s all Brother I saw you this evening, just as I do every day Alone in your room turned away from me, somewhere so far away
6.
“Whattaboudit?” Whatta? What’re you thinking? Are you thinking about me? Am I everything that I should be? I know, I know, that you could do better, better, but I wanna hear about what you’ve seen My clothes are dirty but my hands are clean I wanna see you, is there a place we can go? Without the people we know? Whatta? Whatta whattaboudit? Boudit? I gotta feeling that I can’t sit still, tryn’a look classy ‘cause I think that you will And even, even, if it doesn’t go well, oh well It’s just a little bit of who I am, I’d like to love you if you think that I can I gotta feeling, that you won’t let me go Oh no no no oh I know, I know, that you could do better, better, but I wanna hear about where you’ve been My clothes are dirty but my hands are clean
7.
“Under the Devil’s Thumb” I was just a poor boy with many a mile to run Who can say what brought me here under the devil’s thumb This place is full of sinners and I know I’m one Many a wayward soul is down under the devil’s thumb Under the devil’s thumb, under the devil’s thumb Many a man has lived and died under the devil’s thumb When the winds start blowin, look to where they’re from You will see us looking round, down from the devil’s thumb You can choose to join us, when your time is come Plenty of room and fire and doom under the devil’s thumb Under the devil’s thumb, under the devil’s thumb Many a man has lived and died under the devil’s thumb Greed and vice will lead you here, we take both old and young But all of us are guilty when we’re under the devil’s thumb The walls are made of fire, stretching to the sun We work all day in pain and vain, under the devil’s thumb Under the devil’s thumb, under the devil’s thumb Many a man has lived and died under the devil’s thumb My guilt weighs on me heavy, my ramblin days are done It seems like I was born to die under the devil’s thumb So when the devil taunts you, you must overcome Heed what I say and you will stay far from the devil’s thumb Under the devil’s thumb, under the devil’s thumb Many a man has lived and died under the devil’s thumb Under the devil’s thumb, under the devil’s thumb Many a man has lived and died under the devil’s thumb

Back to You 04:06
“Back to You” Hey Sarah, wait a minute, there’s something I’ve gotta say to you I’m falling deeply in love with everything you do And so I’ve gotta say that tonight you’re looking lovely When I’m away I just hope you’re thinking of me too ‘Cause no matter where I go, yeah I’m always coming back to you Times are hard, times are hard, but I know that we can make it, girl Every worry in your body, yeah I wanna help you shake it girl And even if they say that nothing is forever Throw it all away ‘cause there’s nothing we can’t weather through ‘Cause no matter where I go, yeah I’m always coming back to you And if this world ever gets you down, just look my way and darlin I’ll be around And if the distance ever gets too far, just say my name I’ll be wherever you are And if you feel like you’re under attack, I’m on your team, I’ll be your Sirius Black Because I’m always coming back to you You’re making me think that there’s a miracle cure Your love, your love, can solve problems, stop hate, and bring an end to war Whatever it is, girl I hope you know you’ve got it Take a little time and maybe you can spot it too ‘Cause no matter where I go, yeah I’m always coming back to you ‘Cause no matter where I go, yeah I’m always coming back to you ‘Cause no matter where I go, yeah I’m always coming back to you
9.
“Are You Waiting?” Are you waiting for your old love? The one who wakes you from your sleep Are you standing still for someone? Even when the current runs so deep One layover and you’re on your way One day older but you feel the same Maybe later we’ll look back and say It was crazy how we spent the days for love Over and over the world is turning Passes you by in colors grey and green So pass the time, watch the game, rehearse your lines And still your old love is nowhere to be seen One layover and you’re on your way One day older but you feel the same Maybe later we’ll look back and say It was crazy how we spent the days for love Are you waiting for your old love? The one who wakes you from your sleep Are you standing still for someone? Standing still and incomplete
10.
“So Good (To Be Alone)” I wait for the day to slowly stop and start to turn my way And I’m wishing I was here with you today I’m hoping and praying that you’ll be open to what I’m saying is true That I need some time away from you And I’ve never understood how being on the outside could feel so good Maybe I was born that way—everything is comfortable when I’m far away So please don’t be afraid, there’s so much to take in, so much to be unmade Don’t think of it as being alone, just make the world you’re very own I just want to hold you And treat you kind I just want to bring you a peace of mind So good, so good, so good, so good to be alone

about

Eric Elliott's first solo dulcimer album, "Dots and Lines," features personal messages and stories through ten lovingly-crafted songs. Elliott brings these emotional and whimsical stories to life through his clear, melodic vocals and lush, warm instrumentation.

As this is a "dulcimer album," Elliott places the mountain dulcimer in a lead role for each song, with either acoustic or electric mountain dulcimers lending a unique sound to his seemingly straightforward songwriting, while bolstered by backing open-tuned guitar. But this is certainly not a traditional "dulcimer album," as he re-defines the image of this traditional bluegrass/gospel instrument, and uses it's versatile and poignant sound to define his own unique brand of folk-pop.

Many thanks to everyone who listened to my ideas, musings, and noise during the making of this album. Special thanks to Sarah Worzer, who put up with the most of everything, Jackson Floyd and Meg Lobasso and Moose for contributing their musical expertise, Ashley and Brett Wickham for letting me borrow their piano and drums, and to my family for all their love and support. Writing these songs and making this album has been a personal journey, and it means so much to me to share it with all of you. Thank you for listening.
